Kevin's and Cindy's San Francisco Trip, 2008
Rivendell in the Sierra foothills

Tuesday morning RN drove us up to the Sierra foothills to spend time with Margaret and her husband, Ray. The drive along the winding road leading to their home was beautiful.

Margaret was waiting in the driveway, jumping up and down, waving her arms. She was so excited to see us coming! It was wonderful to finally meet her in person and give her a real hug. Ray came out for hugs and handshakes too.

We hiked down to the hill to the river where there were chairs to sit and chat in. Kevin opted to climb the rocks along the river, exploring and taking pictures. Cindy did a little of both.

After the hike, we sat talking in the living room, slowly meeting all of the cats as they came by to investigate who the strangers were. Margaret and Ray prepared a fantastic meal of steaks on the grill, potatoes, salad, zucchini, and pumpkin pie. When it got dark, Ray built a fire outside where we sat and gazed at the stars with astronomy binoculars. We could see the Milky Way without help, and SO many more stars than we can see at home. Later, we went inside to warm up. We played a couple games of Apples to Apples before finally climbing in bed. The bed was so comfy and quiet.

The next day, Margaret and Ray fixed us a huge breakfast of eggs, biscuits with homemade strawberry jam, bacon, fruit, juice, coffee, and pumpkin pie. We went on another walk down to the river and along the driveway. Then Kevin continued on his own to climb around on the hills, taking pictures.

There was a 1930's Chevy stuck on
the hill above their driveway.

All too soon, it was time to go.

We packed the car and said our goodbyes. RN's little car chugged up that steep driveway like a champ and then we were back on the winding roads. She drove us to Pleasanton and dropped us off at the BART station.
