Kevin's and Cindy's San Francisco Trip, 2008
Alcatraz Prison

When traveling, we tend to stay away from the typical touristy places, but we agreed that we wanted to see Alcatraz. We were intrigued by the history of it. The weather was perfect as we rode the ferry over. We were told it could get cold and windy, but it wasn't. Thankfully, Alcatraz hasn't been renovated and commercialized, as so many tourist attractions tend to be. The history is there to be seen and felt in the cold, gray walls, peeling paint, and rusting bars. Some nice gardening is being done there, just as it was back when the prison was active. We took the audio tour to gain some background, and then spent the rest of the time touring the island by ourselves.
